We provide official CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) tests at our accredited centre in Coatbridge, Scotland. These tests are essential for anyone working in construction and are a key requirement for CSCS card applications and renewals.

Types of CITB HS&E Tests

We offer all three main types of CITB HS&E tests to suit your role in the construction industry:

1. Operatives Test

  • Who is it for? Most site workers, including labourers and general operatives.
  • What does it cover? The core health, safety, and environmental topics relevant to all construction sites.

2. Specialist Tests

  • Who is it for? Workers with specialist roles such as supervisors, demolition, plumbing, highway maintenance, HVAC, or plant operations.
  • What does it cover? Includes all Operatives content plus additional questions specific to your specialist area.

3. Managers and Professionals (MAP) Test

  • Who is it for? Site managers, supervisors, and professionals responsible for overseeing site safety.
  • What does it cover? Advanced topics in health, safety, and environmental management, including legislation and best practice.

Fee Breakdown

Our total fee for the CITB HS&E Test is £45, which includes:

  • CITB Test Fee: £23.50 (official test charge)
  • Administration Charge: £21.50 (covers booking, facilities, and support)

How to Book

  1. Contact us with a minimum of 48 hours notice.
  2. Receive confirmation and all preparation details.
  3. Attend your test at our Coatbridge centre with valid photo ID.

Frequently Asked Question

When should I arrive for my test?

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled test time. Late arrivals will not be accommodated, and your test fee will not be refunded.

What ID do I need to bring?

You must bring valid, original ID as listed in the CITB ID Policy. Photocopies are not accepted.

Can I get revision materials?

 The CITB App is recommended for study

Apps are available to purchase from the Apple or Android app store for both the Operatives and Specialists tests and the Managers and Professionals test.

Can I bring my phone or bag into the test room?

No. All personal items — including phones, keys, bags, watches, and wallets — must be stored in a secure locker provided at the centre.

Is support available if English isn’t my first language?

Yes. Headphones with an English voiceover are available at all test stations. For the HS&E Operatives and Labourer tests, voiceovers are also available in Welsh, Bulgarian, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, and Spanish.

Is there a tutorial before the test starts?

Yes. Staff will explain how the test works, and you’ll have the option to complete a tutorial beforehand. It is strongly recommended — once the test starts, it cannot be interrupted.

How will I know if I passed?

You’ll receive written confirmation of your pass or fail result on the day. Your score report will also highlight any subject areas where you answered incorrectly.

What if I don’t pass?

If you fail the Test, you will not be allowed to re-sit the Test for at least 2 working days after the date on which you undertook the Test.

Is my test fee refundable if I don’t show up?

No. Test fees are non-refundable if you do not attend your scheduled appointment.

Neither [ITC] nor CITB will accept any responsibility if you arrive late or fail to arrive due to adverse weather conditions, failure of transport or any other circumstance.

How do I get a duplicate pass certificate?

Access your score report via your online account. To request a duplicate pass certificate from the Pearson Customer Service Team, you should call 0344 994 4488. A duplicate certificate will incur a £10 administration charge.

Can CITB change my test result?

No. CITB cannot amend results, but can order a re-test if they are satisfied the test was not conducted correctly.

What happens if I’m caught cheating or misbehaving?

Your test will be stopped, your result declared void, and your fee forfeited. Serious misconduct, including cheating, may result in being banned from future tests. CITB may also notify affiliated card schemes.

What do I do if I have a problem during the test?

Attract the attention of ITC staff as instructed before the test begins. If you’re unhappy with how the test was conducted, raise it with the Test Administrator on the day.

What if my complaint isn’t resolved at the test centre?
