 Course Overview

This course is designed for individuals who require the knowledge and practical skills to operate lorry loaders safely and efficiently across a range of site conditions.

Course Objectives
Participants will develop competency in the following areas:

  • Understanding the legal and safety responsibilities associated with lorry loader operation
  • Identifying the main components and controls of lorry loaders and understanding their functions
  • Conducting pre-use checks, routine maintenance, and safety inspections in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements
  • Interpreting lifting plans and selecting appropriate lifting accessories for various loads
  • Setting up, operating, and safely positioning the lorry loader for different lifting tasks
  • Recognising and managing potential hazards related to lorry loader use
  • Communicating effectively with the lifting team, including slinger/signallers and supervisors
  • Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct fit and maintenance
  • Carrying out safe parking, shutdown, and post-use procedures
  • Understanding environmental considerations and responsible equipment use

Card options*

NPORS Traditional Operator Card (Non-CSCS)
  • Best for operators working in non-construction sectors where a CSCS logo card is not required.
  • We standardly issue cards for 3 years but can issue cards for 5 years on request
  • Companies can choose to have the cards restricted to just for their company use on request
NPORS/CSCS Card Route (Construction)
  • For operators working on construction sites where a CSCS logo card is required.
  • You will need a valid NPORS or CITB HS&E touchscreen test dated within 2 years of application
NPORS/CSCS Red Trained Operator Card (2 years)
  • For operators who do not yet hold the required (S)NVQ.
  • You will need a valid NPORS or CITB HS&E touchscreen test dated within 2 years of application
  • During the 2-year card period you must:
    • Register for and achieve the required (S)NVQ before renewal/upgrade
NPORS/CSCS Competent Operator Card (5 years)
  • For operators who already hold the required (S)NVQ
  • You will need a valid NPORS or CITB HS&E touchscreen test dated within 2 years of application
  • The required (S)NVQ for the category
