Manual handling is a major cause of workplace strains, sprains and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This one-day RoSPA Level 2 Award gives your team the knowledge and practical skills to move and handle loads safely, using good posture, efficient movement and the right controls.

What the course covers
The qualification is split into two units.
Unit 1 – Safe moving and handling in the workplace
- Injuries and ill health linked to poor manual handling
- Manual handling hazards and risks, including the importance of risk assessment
- Efficient movement principles: good posture and body mechanics
- Health & safety legislation and consequences of non-compliance
- Principles of risk control for manual handling tasks
- Manual handling equipment and safe use of lifting/handling aids
Unit 2 – Safe manual handling practices
- Demonstrate efficient and safe techniques, including pre-transfer assessments
- Requirements for the safe use of handling/lifting equipment (testing, servicing, examination)
- Types of equipment used for manual handling tasks and when to use them
- Team handling: safe practice when lifting/moving with others
