Health and Safety Policy

1. Statement of intent

RADD Training Limited (“RADD Training”) is committed to pursuing excellence in everything we do, including the effective management of health, safety and (where relevant) environmental protection.

We will, so far as is reasonably practicable, ensure the health, safety and welfare of our employees, freelance trainers/assessors, learners/delegates, visitors, contractors and any other persons who may be affected by our activities.

We recognise that everyone has legal and moral responsibilities for health and safety. RADD Training expects colleagues, learners, visitors, contractors and other employers working with us to share this commitment by complying with our policies, procedures and site rules.

2. General principles and commitments

RADD Training is committed to achieving high standards of health, safety and environmental practice by:

  • Consulting with and involving colleagues and learners in matters relating to their health and safety.
  • Providing, managing and maintaining workplaces, grounds and training areas so they are safe and risks are controlled.
  • Providing adequate and appropriate welfare facilities and arrangements.
  • Providing, managing and maintaining equipment so it is safe and risks are controlled.
  • Identifying hazards and completing suitable and sufficient risk assessments for activities undertaken by RADD Training.
  • Ensuring emergency procedures are in place, effective, communicated, monitored and maintained.
  • Implementing safe systems of work and ensuring risks to health are controlled.
  • Providing information, instruction, training and supervision so that colleagues and learners are competent and understand hazards and control measures.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and authoritative guidance and applying best practice.
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture.

Where appropriate, information on health and safety legislation and standards applicable to a particular course will be included within course materials and delivery.

3. Responsibilities

3.1 Managing Director / Head of Centre

The Managing Director (or nominated competent person) is responsible for:

  • Ensuring this policy is implemented and reviewed.
  • Ensuring suitable arrangements are in place for risk assessment, safe systems of work and emergency planning.
  • Ensuring adequate resources are provided to manage health and safety.
  • Ensuring accidents, incidents and near misses are reported, investigated and actions are completed.
  • Ensuring contractors and third parties are managed safely.

3.2 Employees, freelancers and contractors working on behalf of RADD Training

All employees, freelancers and contractors must:

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.
  • Follow RADD Training procedures, risk assessments and instructions.
  • Use equipment and PPE correctly.
  • Report hazards, defects, near misses and incidents promptly.
  • Not misuse or interfere with anything provided for health and safety.

3.3 Learners/delegates and visitors

Learners/delegates and visitors must:

  • Follow trainer/instructor and site safety instructions.
  • Use PPE and safety equipment as directed.
  • Behave in a way that does not put themselves or others at risk.
  • Report hazards and incidents to the trainer/instructor immediately.

4. Risk management arrangements

RADD Training will maintain arrangements for:

  • Risk assessments (including course-specific and site-specific assessments where required)
  • Method statements / safe systems of work for higher-risk activities
  • Equipment inspection and maintenance
  • Control of substances hazardous to health (where applicable)
  • Manual handling risk control
  • Lone working controls (where applicable)
  • Contractor management

5. Emergency arrangements

RADD Training will ensure emergency procedures are:

  • In place and appropriate to the location and activities
  • Communicated to staff and learners (including during induction where relevant)
  • Practised/tested where appropriate
  • Reviewed following incidents, changes or exercises

Emergency arrangements may include (as applicable): fire, first aid, severe weather, equipment failure, and evacuation of practical training areas.

6. Training, competence and communication

RADD Training will provide information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure competence.

This includes:

  • Induction for staff/freelancers relevant to their role
  • Learner safety briefings appropriate to the course and practical activities
  • Ongoing competence checks and refresher training where needed

7. Monitoring, reporting and continual improvement

We will monitor health and safety performance through:

  • Reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Periodic inspections and audits
  • Review of risk assessments and control measures
  • Feedback from staff and learners

We are committed to continual improvement of our safety management systems.
