1. Our safeguarding statement
RADD Training Limited (“RADD Training”) recognises its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk.
We are committed to ensuring our safeguarding practice reflects relevant legislation, statutory responsibilities, government guidance and recognised best practice.
The welfare and interests of children and adults at risk are paramount in all circumstances. We aim to ensure that everyone who engages with RADD Training has a positive and safe experience, and is protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
We recognise that some people, including those with disabilities and those from minority communities, may be at increased risk of harm. We will take reasonable and appropriate steps to support their welfare.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All learners/delegates (including children and adults at risk)
- All employees, freelance trainers/assessors, contractors and volunteers working on behalf of RADD Training
- All training and assessment activities delivered by RADD Training, including classroom, on-site, blended, distance and online delivery
3. Key principles
RADD Training will:
- Put safeguarding first in all decisions and actions
- Take all concerns seriously and respond promptly
- Work in partnership with statutory services where required
- Maintain confidentiality on a need-to-know basis
- Keep clear, accurate and secure records
- Ensure safer recruitment and appropriate checks
- Provide appropriate safeguarding training and support
4. Definitions
4.1 Child
A child is anyone under the age of 18.
4.2 Adult at risk
An adult at risk is a person aged 18 or over who may be unable to protect themselves from harm or exploitation due to care and support needs.
4.3 Safeguarding
Safeguarding means protecting a persons right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
5. Types of abuse and safeguarding concerns
Safeguarding concerns may include (non-exhaustive):
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Emotional/psychological abuse
- Neglect
- Financial/material abuse
- Discriminatory abuse
- Domestic abuse
- Modern slavery
- Radicalisation/extremism
- Online abuse and grooming
6. Roles and responsibilities
6.1 Everyone
All staff, contractors and volunteers must:
- follow this policy and any related procedures
- act in a way that promotes safety and wellbeing
- report safeguarding concerns immediately
- cooperate with any safeguarding enquiries or investigations
6.2 Safeguarding Lead and Deputy
RADD Training will appoint:
- a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
- a Deputy Safeguarding Lead
They are responsible for:
- receiving and responding to safeguarding concerns
- deciding on appropriate next steps, including referral to statutory services
- maintaining safeguarding records
- ensuring safeguarding training and awareness is in place
- reviewing safeguarding arrangements and continuous improvement
6.3 Senior leadership
Senior leadership is responsible for ensuring:
- safeguarding is embedded in organisational culture
- adequate resources, training and support are provided
- safer recruitment practices are followed
7. What we will do (our commitments)
As part of our safeguarding approach, we will:
- Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and adults at risk
- Ensure robust safeguarding arrangements and procedures are in operation
- Maintain clear standards of behaviour through a code of conduct
- Ensure everyone understands their safeguarding responsibilities and receives appropriate training to recognise, identify and respond to concerns
- Provide effective management, supervision and support so staff and contractors can follow safeguarding procedures confidently
- Take appropriate action in the event of incidents or concerns of abuse, and support individuals who raise or disclose concerns
- Keep confidential, detailed and accurate safeguarding records, stored securely
- Record and store information securely in line with data protection requirements
- Prevent the deployment of unsuitable individuals through safer recruitment and appropriate checks
- Maintain appropriate online safety arrangements for any online delivery and communications
- Ensure learners (and where relevant, parents/guardians) know how to raise a concern and where to get help
8. Reporting a safeguarding concern
If you are concerned about the safety or welfare of a learner, you must report it immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy).
8.1 Immediate risk or emergency
If a person is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical attention, call the emergency services first.
8.2 What to record
Where possible, record:
- the name of the person at risk and any relevant details
- what was seen/heard/disclosed (use the persons own words where possible)
- date, time and location
- names of any witnesses
- actions taken so far
Do not investigate yourself. Do not promise confidentiality. Share information only on a need-to-know basis.
9. Confidentiality and information sharing
Safeguarding information will be handled sensitively and shared only with those who need it to protect the person at risk.
Information may be shared without consent where there is a legal duty to do so or where it is necessary to protect a person from harm.
10. Safer recruitment and suitability
RADD Training will take reasonable steps to ensure that staff, contractors and volunteers are suitable to work with learners, including children and adults at risk.
This may include:
- identity checks
- right to work checks
- reference checks
- appropriate criminal record checks where required for the role
11. Online safety (where applicable)
Where training, assessment or communication takes place online, RADD Training will:
- set expectations for professional conduct and appropriate communications
- use appropriate platforms and access controls
- respond to online safeguarding concerns in the same way as face-to-face concerns
12. Non-compliance
This policy and related procedures are mandatory for everyone involved in RADD Training.
Failure to comply will be addressed without delay and may result in disciplinary action, removal from duties, termination of contract and/or exclusion from the organisation.
